Everything Begins With an Intention

The definition of intention is: a thing intended; an aim or plan. Every outcome begins with an intention. You intend to complete a task today. You either complete it or it is completed on another day, but it begins with the intention to complete. Houses are built, companies are founded, marriages happen, gardens are planted, conflicts are resolved from the seeds of an intention. The stronger the intention, the more likely the event or outcome will happen, because of the power of intention.

WWII Heros

Recently I became interested in stories of heroism during WWII. In my local library, I checked out a documentary titled Anne Frank Remembered. (You can watch it with this link!) You may remember that she and her Jewish family were hidden in an attic for a few years to avoid being transported to slave labor camps. Eventually they were betrayed and sent to various camps. Years later her diary was discovered and eventually published by her father, the only survivor of that family. This intention was written by her:

“I don’t want to have lived in vain like most people.” She goes on to say, “I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!”― Anne Frank

She was seventeen when she died…about fifteen or sixteen when she wrote those words. Anne Frank is probably the most well-known victim of Hitler’s attempt to anihilate all Jews. Her story has been told around the world with the purpose of reducing prejudice for all peoples.

Intentions Carry Energy

Hitler also had powerful intentions. Millions of otherwise innocent people followed the energy of his beliefs and intentions. His intentions victimized millions of others. Perhaps intentions can be categorized by their source. Is hate or love fueling the intention? Will the intention result in benefit or harm to others?

Intentions vs. Goals

Goals have numbers and dates attached to them. “My goal is to retire by the age of forty-five with two million dollars in the bank.” Or, “The goal is to win the Superbowl!” Or, “Our goal is to sell more widgets than our competition.” Perhaps Hitler’s intentions were more like goals…to kill all Jews (and others) and to subjugate the rest of the world under his power.

I think of intentions as a more loosely held goal. For me, an intention has the element of “God willing.” When I write down an intention…a desire…I always add, “This or something better for the highest good of all concerned.” An intention often has an element of unknowing about it. One of my strong intentions is this, “I don’t know how it will happen, but my intention is to train twelve coaches to carry on my work after I die.” I imagine them finding me and my work. They are strong, empathic persons. I dream about them falling in love with the power of Millionaire Marriage Club and feeling led, guided, prompted to seek me out as a trainer. Always, I know I may or may not see the fulfillment of this intention, leaving the ultimate outcome in the hands of God.

Intentions Stimulate Action

Every intention, whether conscious or unconscious, stimulates action. The energy to act and the fulfillment of the outcome may take years to happen. My intention to write relationship books took forty plus years before a physical book, written by me, was a reality. Yet, the energy was brewing deep in my soul.I had to write the message in my life during those forty years until finally it was ready to become the book, “How to Stay Married & Love It! Solving the Puzzle of a SoulMate Marriage.”

For years I’ve resisted public speaking. Yet, with the energy of the intention to reach more couples with the healing message of my courses and books, I recently registered on SpeakerHub.com, a source for event planners to find speakers. I now have “speaker page” advertising my topics and testimonials from past speaking events. Recently I had new photos taken for the publicity. All of these actions were stimulated by the energy of my intention to attract potential coaches to train and couples who need the message in my work.
